The Definition of Health

Health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being. It is a basic human right. However, health can be a challenge. The environment, disease, loss, and change can affect health.

There are many different views on health. These views compete for the attention of visitors and users. Some of the views involve personal understandings and beliefs about health. Others are refurbished historical concepts.

Understanding the different perspectives is important. A healthy lifestyle provides people with the opportunity to lead a full life with purpose and meaning. When people value their health, they will take preventive action and make a conscious effort to remove unhealthful activities and situations.

Although health is often thought of in the context of disease, there is a growing awareness of the importance of a healthy lifestyle. Several organizations are working to improve the knowledge of healthy living. One of them is the Zagreb Andrija Stampar School of Public Health, founded by Dr Andrija Stampar.

In the Middle Ages, the perception of health was strongly influenced by religion and the church. This perception was reframed in the Renaissance and the Industrial Revolution.

Today, health is defined as a resource for living. The World Health Organisation (WHO) defines health as a state of complete physical, mental, social, and economic well-being.

The World Health Organization also includes a definition of health in its Constitution. According to the constitution, health is a fundamental human right. All members of the World Health Organisation are expected to enjoy the highest attainable standard of health.
